Sometimes points that have been needled will need extra stimulation, in which case electro-stimulation is used. Alligator clips are attached to the needle and a pulse of electricity is run to the needle. It is not painful, as the intensity and frequency are adjustable and monitored by the practitioner.

Glass or plastic cups are used to vacuum or lift tissue with applied suction to help release tight muscles and move stagnant Chi. It may help with pain, inflammation, circulation and stress relief.

A Chinese spoon or gua sha tool is used to stroke a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create transitory therapeutic petechiae called “sha”. The skin is not broken, and the scraping instrument is blunt. Fine capillaries give off the sha or petechiae, releasing toxins from the blood and greatly stimulating circulation to the area. It has an anti-inflammatory and immune protective effect as well.

Moxibustion is a method of burning Mugwort or other herbs on, around, or above channel pathways or acupuncture points. A barrier cream or other substance is used between the herb and the skin to protect it in direct Moxabustion. The idea is to provide a pointed heat to specific points in order to regulate and smooth the flow of Chi and Blood, warm the channel pathways, and prevent disease.

Warmed gel or clay packs are sometimes used to prepare an area prior to treatment. The TDP lamp uses Far Infrared energy to stimulate deep muscle relaxation, circulation and to warm an area of treatment.
